Medical history: The patient presented complaining of dyspnea, a cough, strong nightsweats and a 5kg weight loss within one week. The patient also had a bleeding inclination with the nose and gums, as well as petechiae on his or her upper arms. A complete blood count (CBC) was ordered to further investigate these symptoms.

Clinical Examination: The CBC results from the initial presentation are shown below. They indicate that the patient was anemic with a hemoglobin of 9.2 g/dl, thrombocytopenic with platelets of 15 /nl, had a leukocytosis of 36.6 /nl and 66% blasts in the peripheral blood. A bone marrow analysis was ordered for further investigation of these hematological abnormalities.
